The 1961 romantic comedy, “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” will be shown at the Tryon Fine Arts Center, 34 Melrose Avenue, on Tuesday, April 21 at 7 p.m. A champagne gala, with all the trimmings, begins at 5:30 p.m.

 

In what is perhaps the most famous “little black dress” of all time, Audrey Hepburn defined the role of Holly Golightly in the film version of Truman Capote’s novel “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” and exemplified the glamor and chic of the early 1960s.

 

The BBC’s Hafidason wrote, “Woven into this heady romance is chic Hollywood comedy at its finest…evocative cinematography…. (Henry Mancini’s) superb music score…”

The unforgettable song “Moon River” won an Academy Award for Best Score, and Best Original Song. The film also starred George Peppard, Patricia Neal, Martin Balsam, Buddy Ebsen, and Mickey Rooney, and was directed by Blake Edwards.

 

For each series, the TFAC film committee selects one film for a gala fundraiser.  This season, Films of the 1960s, they chose “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” The champagne will flow along with a great variety edible delights starting at 5:30. Little black dresses will be welcomed and a prize will be awarded for the most convincing Audrey Hepburn look-alike. Reservations are requested for the gala but are not required for the movie.
