GREENSBORO, N.C. — Kmart will close its distribution center in Greensboro in April, a move that will affect about 130 workers, according to the company.

Kmart is a division of Sears Holdings. A Sears Holdings spokesman said associates who are eligible will receive severance and have the chance to apply for open positions within the company.

Sears Holdings sent FOX8 the following statement:

Sears Holdings is implementing a strategy to optimize our supply chain resources to meet the needs of our retail business at a time when we are optimizing our store network and as we continue to invest in our integrated retail strategy. For example, we are using our store network as a competitive strength as some stores serve in a distribution center capacity for online fulfillment, and our customers are also able to buy online and pick up their orders in store. As part of this strategy, we will be closing our distribution center in Greensboro in mid-April. Until then, it will continue to operate and distribute products to our Sears and Kmart stores. The distribution center has approximately 130 associates. Those associates who are eligible will receive severance and have the opportunity to apply for open positions in the company.

Kmart recently closed its stores in Greensboro and Reidsville. Locations remain open in Burlington, Thomasville, Madison and Clemmons.
