Taylor Swift has admitted to stalking her own fans on the internet.

The 'Welcome to New York' singer previously picked a group of her biggest fans to visit her home and listen to her new album 1989, but decided to get a glimpse of their lives via social media first.

Speaking on Alan Carr: Chatty Man, she explained: "Basically, before I finished the album I realised it was my favourite album that I'd ever done, and I was so excited that I thought, 'I want to play this for fans first, I want them to hear it first, I want it to be in a really intimate situation, I want it to be kind of like a hangout'.

"So I wanted to call it the 'Secret Sessions', and I wanted it to be super secret - not to be redundant - so what we did was contact all these fans that I'd been stalking on the internet.

"You kind of go on the internet and have a look at their Instagrams, maybe look at what their life is like, like 'cute cat, cute dog', and then I would send in the URL for their Twitter, their Tumblr, to my web team, and they complied this list of people we were going to contact when the time came.

"So they were contacted, they were told, 'Meet in a church parking lot at this particular time, we can't tell you any more information other than it's Taylor Swift-related'. So then their phones were taken, they were put on buses and didn't know where they were being taken."

"It's like a hostage situation," Carr quipped.

"I know, but they did it - they signed NDAs and stuff, and then came to my house," Swift added. "The first group didn't realise where they were until they were snooping around and looking inside the windows of the house, and they see, like, a Grammy on the mantle, and pictures of my friends."

Asked if any of her fans took anything from her house, Swift said that a bar of soap did go missing during one of the sessions.

Swift recently discussed her need for a security team, explaining that death threats are a "sad part" of her life.

Alan Carr: Chatty Man airs at 10pm on Channel 4 tomorrow (October 24).
