So long jeggings, bandage dresses and peplum.

From Paris runways to local boutiques, new buzzwords have strutted their way into the fashion world. Some of the latest terms to tuck away in your style lexicon:

Midi skirts. Not a mini and not a maxi, but a hemline that falls in between — near the middle of the calf. Stephanie’s boutique in St. Paul’s Highland Park is one of several local boutiques carrying midi skirts the past few seasons.

“You could pair them with a T-shirt tucked in for a more casual look,” says Kylie Weber of Stephanie’s. “We are also seeing them with crop tops because the waist line is a little bit higher. The waist line makes the look more demure because you don’t have too much skin showing.”

Athleisure. A new clothing category that is a mash-up of athletic- and leisure-wear, athleisure wear can be worn outside of the gym. This can take some mixing and matching, such as track pants worn with heels or sneakers paired with a Louis Vuitton handbag. Find this everywhere from moderately priced retail chains, such as Dick’s Sporting Goods, to luxe design houses, including Stella McCartney and Derek Lam.

Heritage. Heritage products typically have brand history and are known for their high quality and exclusivity. That’s good news for such local companies as Duluth Pack, Faribault Woolen Mill and J.W. Hulme Co. as more and more shoppers and local boutiques flock toward heritage pieces.
