CCTV shots show the robber in a "World's Dumbest Criminals" type moment bending over to pick up the notes in broad daylight.

He even somehow gets an unsuspecting member of the public to help him.

The suspect, who appeared to be drunk, entered the mini-supermarket in Heywood, Lancashire at around 8am on Sunday morning, wearing a hoodie and a mask.

He stumbled to the counter but no staff were there.

He then stupidly removed his mask, revealing his identity, to call for someone.

The member of staff was told to hand over money from the till after the crook revealed he had a handgun in his belt.

Three handfuls of cash were handed to him, which the majority of he dropped outside.

But the offender did eventually get away and police are now looking for him.

Detective Sergeant Nicola Hopkinson said: "There are parts of this armed robbery that border on calamitous and while images of him scrambling around the car park may at first appear amusing, we must not detract from the fact that an innocent shop worker has been threatened at gun point.

"Due to the offender's lack of coordination and general demeanor while robbing the store we suspect that he was drunk, which may in some part account for why he has done this, but regardless he has committed a serious offence and we need to identify him."

He is described as white, about 6ft 2in tall, of slim build and in his late 20s.
