Mark Nunnelly, a former Bain Capital managing partner, will be Massachusetts' next commissioner of revenue.
Administration and Finance Secretary Kristen Lepore appointed Nunnelly to succeed Amy Pitter, who held the job under former governor Deval Patrick.
Nunnelly will also work as a special adviser to Gov. Charlie Baker on "technology and innovation competitiveness," a position in which he will advise Baker on attracting innovation companies.
"I am excited to have Mark join my administration in these important roles," Baker said in a statement. "His track record of building organizations and growing companies in Massachusetts and across the country will add greatly to our policy discussions and initiative."
The Department of Revenue is in charge of implementing the state's tax laws.
Nunnelly had worked at Bain Capital, an investment firm, since 1989, and has worked with the business services and technology industries, according to a biography provided by the Baker administration. He previously worked at the consulting firm Bain & Company, a separate company whose partners founded Bain Capital, and at Procter and Gamble. The New York Times reported that Nunnelly retired in January 2014, though he remained on numerous boards.
