Starting October 2, railway employees of Tiruchi Railway Division will embark on the task of cleaning railway stations, offices and their colonies by offering ‘shramdaan’.
The work is to be done under the nation-wide special cleanliness campaign to be launched on Thursday by the Ministry of Railways as per the directive of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Senior railway officers of Tiruchi Division have been deputed to major stations falling within the division to offer their ‘shramdaan’ when the campaign gets under way.
School and college students besides service organisations would be roped in during the cleanliness campaign across Tiruchi Division, said Manjula Rangarajan, Divisional Railway Manager, Tiruchi.
The cleanliness works would continue till 2019 with two hours set apart every week to carry out this task.
A cleanliness drive was organised at the Golden Rock Railway Workshop here on Wednesday as part of the campaign.
Chief Workshop Manager V.Selvam administered the cleanliness pledge to the employees.
Besides workshop employees, school students, Scouts and Guides and members of St. Johns Ambulance were also involved in the drive.
