More broadly, the Dow Jones Industrial Average increased 0.2%, the Nasdaq declined 0.1% and the S&P 500 pushed 0.2% higher.

• Novagold Resources Inc (NG): NG stock is up 4.2% today.

• Pan American Silver (PAAS): PAAS stock is up 3.0% today.

• Randgold Resources Limited (GOLD): GOLD stock is up 2.9% today.

• Trex Company (TREX): TREX stock is up 2.8% today.

• Mrc Global Inc (MRC): MRC stock is up 2.7% today.

• Stillwater Mining Company (SWC): SWC stock is up 2.5% today.

• Yamana Gold (AUY): AUY stock is up 2.4% today.

• Celanese Corp (CE): CE stock is up 2.4% today on 3 times normal volume.

• Gold Fields Ltd (GFI): GFI stock is up 2.4% today.

Some of the biggest losers among basic materials stocks include:

• Cliffs Natural Resources Inc (CLF): CLF stock is down 3.6%, marking the third consecutive day the stock has decreased.

• Grupo Simec S.A. De C.V. (SIM): SIM stock is down 2.1% today.

• Sealed Air Corp (SEE): SEE stock is down 1.5% today.

• Praxair (PX): PX stock is down 1.4% today.

• Curtiss-Wright Corp (CW): CW stock is down 1.0% today.

• Ferro Corp (FOE): FOE stock is down 0.9% today.

• Precision Castparts Corp (PCP): PCP stock is down 0.9% today.

• Sun Hydraulics Corp (SNHY): SNHY stock is down 0.8% today.

• Kaiser Aluminum Corp (KALU): KALU stock is down 0.8% today.
