Apollo Moon Landing Celebration will begin July 20

The 40th Annual Apollo Moon Landing Celebration, sponsored by Apollo Fire Department Hose Company 2, will be held July 20-25 at Owens Field, Route 56, Apollo.

The midway amusement rides will be by Swank's Steel City Shows with booths sponsored by community, church and schools offering food, games and concessions from 7-11 p.m.

Nightly entertainment will include an opening ceremony on Monday featuring the Kittanning Fireman's Band in concert and the Armstrong County American Legion Honor Guard. Guest speaker will be James Panchik, judge of the court of common pleas in Armstrong County. The event is sponsored by Murphy's Music Center, Leechburg.

KDKA TV 2's Dennis Bowman, ventriloquist, featuring Chester Drawers will highlight Tuesday's entertainment with a pre-show by local music artist Micah Evans, sponsored by the National Character Education Foundation and Glenn Bush Ford, Inc., Apollo.

Wednesday is Family Night with one price ride all night and in a Gibbons Big Band Concert, sponsored by Kelly L. Corridoni Funeral Home, LTD, North Apollo.

The Kiski Valley Community Band will appear in concert on Thursday, sponsored by Kiski Valley Uniforms & Supply, Leechburg.

Elvis Presley Tribute Artist, Kelly Hylton will perform 7-9 p.m. Friday, sponsored by Dunmire-Kerr Funeral Home, Vandergrift and Hoff Chiropractic Clinic, PC, North Apollo.

There will also be drawings for prizes at 10 p.m. and a small Zambelli Fireworks Tribute Finale at 10:15 p.m. commemorating the 40th Anniversary of NASA's Apollo Space Program and the Apollo Moon Landing Celebration, co-sponsored by Swank's Steel City Shows and Currran-Shaffer Funeral Home.

Apollo Area Historical Society, North Second Street, will display NASA memorabilia about the Apollo Space Program of the 1960's commemorating the 40th anniversary of the nation's feat of landing a man on the moon on July 20, 1969.

Apollo Memorial Library, North Pennsylvania Avenue, welcomes visitors to research information about NASA's Apollo Space Program from library books and journals to Internet access available at the Library.
