Tehran: In an apparently risk-laden event, Iran is hosting an international anti-Islamic State cartoon competition to lampoon and scoff at the extremists and the atrocities committed by them.

The event named 'Daesh cartoon and caricature contest – 2015' is being held by Iran's House of Cartoons to expose the true meaning of the ISIS, which otherwise claims to be associated to Islam.

According to Iranian Press TV, over 1000 submissions have been received so far from 43 nations including UK, Peru, Australia, Brazil, and Indonesia.

Out of all submissions, over 270 have been picked and they will be evaluated by graphic experts who will then award the prize on 31st May.

The selected works are being displayed at an exhibition in Tehran. The organisers say that they are looking forward to take the exhibition to countries like Iraq, Lebanon and Syria.

Some of the participants from foreign nations were scared to use their original names for security reasons and are hence are disguised themselves under pseudonyms, the deputy head of competition, Mohammad Habibi told the Tehran Times.

Many of the cartoons have mocked even US and Israel linking them to the ISIS.

Massoud Shojaei Tabatabaii, head of Iran House of Cartoon, is one of the jury members and said that the contest was being held “to reveal the true nature of ISIS”.

“IS tries to associate itself with Islam, but its essence has no idea about Islam", Massoud Shoja'ei Tabatabai, the head of House of Cartoons, told the Iranian TV.
