Almost 20 poles and trees along Mate Street have been bombed with yarn along with garbage bins and seats by Brett Cummins Jewellers co-owner Kate Barrette Cummins.
She said she hoped the yarn bombing would get people talking.
“It makes people not forget we are here,” Mrs Barrette Cummins said.
“It encourages people to shop locally.
“We hope it will get people driving up the street to have a look around and see what’s here.”
The art installation will only be in Mate Street for the short-term and blankets donated to the yarn bombing project will be given to the Aspire op shop in Lavington.
“The main thing is just getting people to smile on a wintery day,” Mrs Barrette Cummins said.
“Yarn bombing is a nice thing to do and gives the community an opportunity to get involved.”
She said a large number of blankets would have a significant impact and wants to continue the project.
“It would be great to randomly yarn bomb different places,” she said.
