Fresh Del Monte Produce Inc. (FDP) reported that its net income attributable to the company for the first quarter of 2015 declined to $42.5 million, from $58.6 million in the first quarter of 2014. Earnings per share dropped to $0.80 from $1.04 last year.
Comparable net income for the first quarter of 2015 was $44.2 million, compared with $56.5 million in the first quarter of 2014. Comparable earnings per share were $0.83, compared with comparable earnings per share of $1.00 in the prior year.
Net sales for the first quarter of 2015 grew to $1.008 billion, from last year's $982.3 million, due to higher net sales in the company's banana and other fresh produce business segments, primarily driven by increased sales volume in North America.
