New Delhi: Noting that various communication wings often spoke in different voices leading to "ambiguity", the Health Ministry is in the process of setting up a unified communication unit for effective formulation of strategy of its initiatives.

Health Ministry officials said that the communication functions were divided between Information Education and Communication (IEC), IT and e-governance divisions and due to the multiplicity of agencies, there is a "lack" of synergy and synchronisation.

The traditional and new media platforms related to the ministry are usually not in tandem with each other and often speak in different voices leading to ambiguity of messaging.

A senior official said that the proposed communication unit will be under the supervision of a joint secretary and all communication of different divisions shall be routed through the proposed unit which will "liaise" with them to cater to communication, disseminating messages "uniformly and unambiguously" across all media platforms.

The proposed unit will cater to all communication related activities of the Ministry, the official said.
