Metal Gear Solid has been missing from PC for more than a decade. Snake and slithered and crawled through consoles for years no, but only regularly made stops at the master race station. That’s not changing soon, but his Big Boss daddy is set to return to PC next month, when Ground Zeroes finally makes its way to Steam. And know we know what you’ll need to get him crawling.
Konami has revealed the PC specifications you’ll need to get the prologue to The Phantom Pain going, when Ground Zeroes launches on a fifth platform come December 16th. The game is a good indication of what we can expect from The Phantom Pain sometime next year, both of a gameplay and technological level. So it’s safe to say that if your PC just makes it past this hurdles, you may be wanting to look at an upgrade for the real package.
Minimum Specifications:
- OS: Windows Vista 64-Bit or later.
- Processor: Core i5 SandyBridge 4Core (4 Thread) 2.7GHz or above.
- Memory: 4 GB RAM or above.
- Graphics: GeForce GTX 650 or above.
- DirectX: Version 11 or above.
Recommended Specifications:
- OS: Windows Vista 64-Bit or later.
- Processor: Core i5 SandyBridge 4Core (4 Thread) 2.7GHz or above.
- Memory: 8 GB RAM or above.
- Graphics: GeForce GTX 760 or above.
- DirectX: Version 11 or above.
Anyone else notice the distinct lack of any AMD comparative mentions above? That usually doesn’t happen, so I do hope that the increasing trend of problems on AMD hardware doesn’t surface with the FOX Engine as well. Otherwise, it seems to me that Ground Zeroes’ waters make for relatively smooth sailing, matching some of the recommended specifications that Far Cry 4 just launched with.
I expect these specs to get a bit of a bump with The Phantom Pain though. Missions will be far bigger and require a bit more computational power to keep them going. That’s on top of the inevitable visual upgrade the entire game should get by the end of next year.
Ground Zeroes may be a really small bite of what’s to come, but I was pleasantly surprised at how much replayability the “paid demo” actually has. If you’re a Metal Gear Solid fan then it’s pretty essential, especially since it sets things in motion for Hideo Kojima’s next grand blockbuster. Or a convoluted, confusing mess, as Geoff likes to call it.

When AMD launched the R7 and R9 cards journo’s punted AMD as the better GPU for PC gamers just because the next-gen console run AMD GPU’s. Look how the times have changed in a matter of weeks and Nvidia is wiping AMD clean and it’s now the go to card albeit if you have R3k+ to spend.

Which is understandable as AMD has invested years in APUs and are well beyond what Nvidia can make.
