Norwalk's Maritime Aquarium Hosts Imax 'Polar Express' For Holidays

NORWALK, Conn. – Norwalk's Maritime Aquarium is bringing back 2004's “The Polar Express” for a monthlong holiday engagement on its big IMAX screen.

The run is scheduled to begin on Friday, Nov. 28, and end Thursday, Jan. 1.

Showtimes are 4 and 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and at 4 p.m. Sundays from Nov. 28 to Dec. 21. From Dec. 26 through Jan. 1, showtimes are 4 and 7:30 p.m. daily.

Ticket prices are $11.50 for adults; $10.50 for youths (ages 13-17) and seniors (65 and over); and $9.50 for children (ages 3-12). Maritime Aquarium members save $1.

To include a visit to the aquarium with an "Express" screening, tickets are $31.45 for adults, $28.45 for youths & seniors, and $22.45 for children.

"Express'" based on the book by Chris Van Allsburg, follows a young boy who doubts the existence of Santa Claus. On Christmas Eve, a locomotive takes him and other children to Santa's North Pole headquarters.

Tom Hanks voices five roles, including the train's conductor, a hobo and Santa Claus.

The aquarium is one of a few locations across North America screening the film in IMAX for its 10th anniversary. The print shown is designed to take advantage of the aquarium's 12,000-watt surround sound system and six-story screen.

All aquarium visitors can enter a free drawing to win a G-gauge toy train set. Entry forms will be near the Aquarium’s gift shop. No admission is necessary to enter the drawing or to visit the gift shop.

The winner will be chosen Monday, Jan. 5.

Screenings on weekdays at 9 and 10 a.m. are also available for preschool and elementary-school students.
