Windows 10 release date, specs, rumors: AMD CEO accidentally lets slip that launch is late July

Microsoft is set to launch Windows 10 in late July, according to a comment from the CEO of Advanced Micro Devices.

Microsoft's Windows 10 aims to resolve the present shortcomings in the user interface as well as unify the Windows, Windows Phone, and Windows Embedded product families around a common internal core. Microsoft had earlier confirmed that its hotly-anticipated new platform, Windows 10 will be launched this summer in 190 countries and 111 languages, but has continued to shy away from providing the exact launch date.

The plan for a summer launch for the Windows 10 was in line with Microsoft's announcement during the unveiling of the new platform in San Francisco last fall, when the company had stated its target to deliver the completed version of Windows 10 by mid-2015. The Redmond company has also said that it plans to deliver free Windows 10 upgrades to all its customers, including those running pirated versions of Windows.

However, during Advanced Micro Devices' (AMD) conference call on Friday to discuss the chip manufacturer's first-quarter earnings, CEO Lisa Su accidentally spilled the beans on the launch date for Microsoft's Windows 10. In her answer to a question from an analyst during the conference call, Lisa Su disclosed that Windows 10 would be launched in late July.

"What we also are factoring in is, you know, with the Windows 10 launch at the end of July, we are watching sort of the impact of that on the back-to-school season, and expect that it might have a bit of a delay to the normal back-to-school season inventory buildup," said Su during the call.

As one of Microsoft's hardware partners, AMD is likely to be aware of the exact time frame for launching Windows 10 and the July end release date can be considered as reliable. If the information revealed by AMD is indeed true, then Microsoft has less than three months to complete the development of Windows 10 and deliver it as a free upgrade to hundreds of millions of customers across the world.
