The Alleghany County school system has a new leader.
Eugene Kotulka was appointed superintendent this week by the county school board. He will start July 1, replacing Sarah Campbell, who last summer announced her plans to retire.
Kotulka has a 35-year career in education, including 20 years of teaching and then working in administration. His most recent position was director of student services in Orange County.
During the interview process, Kotulka said, “it was obvious to me that members of the Alleghany County Public Schools School Board are committed to the children of Alleghany County to provide all the children with the best education possible,” according to a news release announcing his appointment.
The county school system has about 2,500 students in three elementary schools, a middle school and a high school.
