Donington WSBK: Lowes finally making progress

Voltcom Suzuki’s Alex Lowes is looking for a little more confidence in the behaviour of his GSX-R1000 but says his team have made some progress with the troublesome electronics at Donington Park’s World Superbike round.

The Derby-based rider suffered some glitches and a crash in the opening two practice periods but bounced back in the third to set the sixth-quickest time overall and find himself less than half a second off the pace of Tom Sykes.

“We had a couple of issues in the first sessions. It’s been a tough three races and I’ve always said I am feeling like I am riding quite well but it all very well saying that when you’re finishing tenth and not doing any laps,” said Lowes, speaking to bikesportnews.com.

“We have got work to do, we are chipping away and getting better every time but I need more confidence in the bike to race it at the level I want to. We have got tomorrow and I think if we can get close to the podium, I think we will have done a great job.

“I half enjoyed the last session. I have got to be quite calm and relaxed about what we can achieve but if we carry on like this then we should be ok. If it’s dry in the morning, I will be trying harder than anyone to get a good position.

“We have made some progress with the electronics, the bike more or less feels like it is working properly. When I shut the throttle, it’s not staying open and things like that. It’s hard work but I feel like I have done the best I can with the laps we have had.”
