Wesco International names Haley president, chief executive

Wesco International Inc. named a new executive team on Wednesday, including a successor to CEO Roy Haley, who has led the Fortune 500 corporation for the past 15 years.

John Engel, 47, will become president and chief executive on Sept. 1. The senior vice president and chief operating officer joined the South Side company in 2004 and its board in 2008. Engel previously held executive positions at Gateway Inc., Perkin Elmer Inc., Allied Signal Inc. and General Electric Co.

Haley, 62, will serve as executive chairman until his term as chairman of the board of directors expires in May 2011.

With about $6.1 billion in sales last year, Wesco distributes electrical, industrial and construction supplies throughout the United States and overseas. The company employs about 7,200 and ranks 406 on the Fortune 500 list by revenue.

Wesco said Stephen Van Oss, chief financial officer and senior vice president of finance and administration, will become chief operating officer Sept. 1. He will be succeeded as CFO on June 15 by Richard Heyse, who holds that position at Innophos Inc., a specialty phosphates maker.

Wesco stock closed yesterday at $26.20, down 59 cents, or 2.2 percent.
