Mukul Roy wants ‘justice’ for Saradha scam-hit poor

January 31, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:50 am IST - KOLKATA:

After four-and-a-half hours of interrogation by the CBI on Friday, Trinamool Congress general secretary Mukul Roy took many in political circles by surprise, demanding that “justice” be done to those who had lost their savings in the Saradha chit fund scam.

“I want the investigating agency to continue with the probe, and the truth should come out. If the agency summons me again for the sake of investigation, I will appear before it and cooperate [with it],” he told journalists, emerging from the CBI office. “The poor have lost their money, they have lost their savings... justice should not be denied to them.”

His statement runs counter to the TMC’s line that the CBI is “used” by the Union government as a “political tool.”

While the TMC has been urging the people to take to the streets after the arrest of Transport Minister Madan Mitra, Mr. Roy said he was not in favour of anything that might inconvenience the people.
