An effort to open a natural history museum in Superior is in the making.

A local non-profit, Prehistoric Adventures, is determined to start a museum at the Old Library on Hammond Road.

With tourism growing in the Twin Ports, project leader Matthew Waterhouse feels a permanent dinosaur museum would be successful.

“Prehistoric Adventures Living Museum of Natural History” will cover both themes of a traditional museum and new themes of a modern museum.

Waterhouse hopes to have the concept of a “living” museum.

“We want to have stationary exhibits combined with a few living animals as well.  Those that need help conservation wise specifically like the monarch butterfly.  We are looking in doing a butterfly exhibit in the building,” said Waterhouse.

Several living museums can be found across the United States.

“The type of exhibits we would have in this particular museum would be unmatched wherever you go that could look for in the Midwest and I would challenge in the country,” said Waterhouse.

The building is at an asking price of $125,000.

Waterhouse hopes the building can be funded through donations and grants.
