Get Ready for a 2nd Generation Tata Nano!

by SpeedLux

The Indian automaker, Tata Nano, has made an official announcement, hinting that the next generation Tata Nano, a 2nd generation, is coming out soon and that it will have some vital changes compared to its predecessor. In case you forget, the original Tata Nano had its sales started back in the year 2009. The car was so affordable, it cost only 100,000 Indian rupees. For your information, that was equivalent to less than $2,000 back then. Thanks to such an asking price, the car managed to grab the predicate as the most affordable car on earth. However, as time went by, the car received more and more upgrades. Along with that, of course, it became more and more expensive than ever. By the time 2014 came, the car was already priced at $2,5550.

However, Ratan Tata, an ex-chairman of the Indian company, points out that the car’s status as the most affordable, a.k.a. cheapest, car in the world has a negative impact on the car itself, especially when it comes to sales. There are not few people out there who refrain from buying the vehicle because they do not want to be spotted driving the cheapest car on earth.

Therefore, for the next generation Nano, Tata Motors is planning to apply a number of upgrades as well as increase the asking price of the vehicle. For one, the car will have a more powerful engine to replace the current 0.6L 2-cylinder engine. The company is also determined to add a number of amenities onto the vehicle so as to make it – as how the company puts it – more like a true car.

Just as a kind reminder, Tata Motors actually introduced the Nano so that Indian families with low income can have safety travel, too, by driving their very own car and not motorcycles. Lastly, customers can also get a bi-fuel variant of the Tata Nano from India.
