Submitted

Two Gallatin companies have received $15,000 each in training grants from the state.

Gap Inc. and Industrial Maintenance Company Inc. each earned Incumbent Worker Training Grants from Gov. Bill Haslam and Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development Commissioner Burns Phillips. Incumbent Worker Training Grants assist employers with upgrading skills to avoid layoffs of their employees.

In its application, Gap Inc. said the grant will make Gallatin-based employees experts on Oracle-based software and Essbase (a database tool), and allow them to become a resource for the entire network creating job security.

And in its application, Industrial Maintenance Company Inc. said the money will provide training, new skill sets and traits that are needed in today’s manufacturing and technological environment.

Workforce Essentials Inc. played a key role in awarding the grants to each company.

“We have to make sure that we have the trained workforce to fill the jobs companies want to create in Tennessee, and these grants are a part of the effort to meet the demands of a very competitive marketplace,” Haslam said.

Added Phillips: “These training grants play a vital role in keeping a thriving economy in Tennessee. Since the program’s inception, Incumbent Worker Training grants have assisted more than 675 businesses by providing nearly $16 million to train approximately 53,000 employees.”
