York Children's Foundation donates to Seton Foundation for Learning

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- On Dec. 19, Mary Hughes, executive director of the Seton Foundation for Learning, Bulls Head, accepted a check for $750 from John Scalia of Scalia Funeral Home, Eltingville, and Michael Pontone of the York Children's Foundation, Pittsburgh, Pa.

The York Children's Foundation, which contributes to the Seton Foundation several times a year, is a national organization dedicated to providing financial support to children's charities throughout the country. It is affiliated with the Matthews International Corporation casket division, and each time a family purchases a casket at participating funeral homes, a portion of the cost is donated to the York Children's Foundation in the name of the deceased.

The Seton Foundation for Learning is a not-for-profit agency established to meet the needs of developmentally disabled children and their families in the Staten Island community. It currently sponsors four programs: Joan Ann Kennedy Memorial Preschool for 3- to 5-year-olds; Mother Franciska Elementary School for 5- to 14-year-olds; Bishop Patrick V. Ahern School for 15- to 21-year-olds, and the Therese Program for school-aged children with diagnoses on the autistic spectrum.
