Huawei today at its premium South East Asia launch event in Bangkok showcased its flagship P8 smartphone along with two variants of it- P8 Max and P8 Lite. The Chinese smartphone player also showcased its Android Wear powered Watch W1, TalkBand 2 fitness tracker and a 7-inch X2 phablet. The flagship P8 and TalkBand 2 was first unveiled at MWC in March.
The P8 smartphone sports a 5.2-inch Full HD 1080p IPS LCD display at 424 ppi pixel density with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Running on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop operating system with Emotion 3 UI, the device is powered by a 64-bit octa-core HiSiliocon Kirin 930 CPU (4 x 2Ghz Cortex A53 and 4 x 1.5Ghz Cortex A53) with 3GB RAM, 16GB ROM and support for microSD cards up to 128GB.
“All the smartphones will be launched in India within the third quarter of this year. The prices are yet to be fixed, however, it would be similar to what it costs in China. The flagship P8 will not join the price war and will cost above Rs 29,000,” said Wang Guodong, President, India Device Business Department, Huawei. “The P8 Lite is a budget offering and will compete in the mid range price segment.”
The flagship P8 comes with a 13MP A/F rear camera with dual LED (dual tone) Flash and optical image stabilisation. It also offers an 8MP front camera. On the connectivity, it comes with Bluetooth 4.1, NFC WiFi, micro USB and dual nano-SIM card slot with support for 4G. It is powered by a non-removable 2,680 mAh battery.
The Huawei P8 Max and X2 are made for consumers who are comfortable in using a 7-inch tablet to make calls, however, have to compromise on the hardware front. The P8 Max sports a 6.8-inch FHD display while the X2 offers a 7-inch FHD display. “While the market for P8 Max and X2 is limited in India, the device is primarily targeted to those consumers who want a bigger screen with good performance,” said Guodong.
The P8 Max runs on an octa-core HiSiliocon Kirin CPU with Mali T628 MP4 GPU with 3GB RAM, 64GB ROM and 128GB microSD card support. It is powered by a 4,360 mAh battery. It runs on Android Lollipop operating system with Emotion UI 3. It offers a 13MP A/F rear camera with dual LED (dual tone) Flash and a 5MP front camera.
On the other hand, the X2 is powered by a 5,000 mAh battery along with 2GHz HiSiliocon Kirin 930 CPU with Mali T628 GPU. Camera specifications are similar to the P8 Max. The budget P8 Lite smartphone offers a 5-inch display and runs on a 1.2Ghz octa-core processor with 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM.
The TalkBand B2 is a primarily a waterproof fitness tracker cum Bluetooth earpiece. The device can be taken out from the band and can be used as a regular Bluetooth earpiece to answer calls. It is compatible with both iOS and Android. It comes with a 0.73-inch PMOLED display and pairs via Bluetooth.
Powered by a 90 mAh battery, the device claims to offer 5 days of battery life on regular usage and 6 hours of talk time.
It comes in Gold, Silver and Black colour option and buyers can choose between leather and soft plastic strap. The TalkBand B2 is expected to cost around Rs 15,000 in India.
