Emerging Designers Rule the Runway at California College of the Arts

7x7 had the privilege of naming CCA's Class of 2015 Emerging Designer of the Year award last week, and picking just one recipient out of so many potential design stars was more difficult than we have ever encountered before.

Featuring original collections by 13 senior designers, judged by industry pros, and showcased by professional models, this fashion-forward presentation reinforced why it's become a staple in the college's lineup of annual events. Each student was given only three minutes on the runway to display their hardwork, and in the end there was only one winner. Hao Dong's unique collection HAO R U inspired true individualism and embraced modern urban life and pop culture while making a statement about fast fashion and mass label devotees. Plus, the tailoring was impeccable. She joins impressive ranks: Last year's winner Erick Lopez—whose oversized neoprene jerseys and jackets with exaggerated shoulders won us over—now works for Abercrombie & Fitch.
