Gov. Chris Christie has declined to re-nominate a former state lawmaker who has been critical of him to the Rutgers Board of Governors, The Auditor noticed.

Christie on Monday nominated Washington DC resident Joe Rigby, a Rutgers grad who leads the energy holding company Pepco, for a seat on the Rutgers Board of Governors.

Left unsaid was that Rigby would replace Morristown resident Gordon MacInnes, who was nominated to the board by former Gov. Jon Corzine just before Christie took office.

MacInnes is president of New Jersey Policy Perspective, a liberal think tank that has been particularly critical of the Christie administration's expanded use of corporate tax breaks and his stewardship of New Jersey's economy.

MacInnes is a former Democratic state lawmaker, serving one two-year term in the Assembly in the 1970s and one four-year term in the Senate in the 1990s. He has also worked as an assistant education commissioner.

Through a spokesman, MacInnes acknowledged that he hasn't been renominated but did not comment further.

Rigby has been in the energy industry since joining Atlantic City Electric in 1979, according to his bio on Pepco Holdings' website. The company owns several power providers in the mid-Atlantic region and south Jersey.
