Sony may currently be working hard at getting the Spider-Man franchise back on its feet, but that’s not the only comic book adaptation that the studio has in the works. According to THR, Sony’s also looking to adapt a lesser-known graphic novel from IDW, titled Zombies vs. Robots.

Unfortunately, the project won’t have that awesome title, and is instead being called Inherit the Earth. Shrek 2 and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe director Andrew Adamson has been attached to helm the project, while Dallas Buyers Club scribe Craig Borten will pen the screenplay.

Zombies vs. Robots, written by Ryall and Ashley Wood, tells the tale of a team of robots who must clone the last surviving human baby and protect it from intelligent zombies. It’s certainly a high-concept project if I’ve ever seen one, and a bit out of Borten’s wheelhouse, to be honest. That could be a good sign though, as he’ll hopefully bring a well-rounded character focus to the project without letting it get lost in its more fantastical elements.

You can read the official synopsis for IDW’s Zombies vs. Robots below.

It’s tech prowess meets undead mayhem! Eisner Award-nominated team of artist Ashley Wood (“Popbot”) and writer Chris Ryall (“The Great and Secret Show”), a post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombies has only one chance at recovery – a team of robots that must protect and clone a lone surviving human baby. They just need to do this amidst the endless hordes of zombies who have been driven rabid by their frustration at inedible bots and their lust to eat the one living brain left on the planet.
