PESHAVER, Pakistan—Member of the Punjab Assembly, Ramesh Singh Arora on Sunday urged the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to provide security to the Sikh community in the province.

He was addressing as the chief guest at a ceremony held in connection with the 547th birthday of the founder of the Sikh religion Guru Nanak Dev Ji, falling on November 6. The function took place at Gurdawara Bhai Fateh Singh, RA Bazaar, reported by the Pakistan daily The Nation.

Showing his concern over the targeted killing of Sikhs in Peshawar last year, he said that the provincial government should provide them with security. He added that Peshawar has the largest population of Sikhs, which is the smallest of all the religious minorities in the country.

“Foreign hands seem to be involved in the killing of innocent Sikhs and it is the responsibility of the PTI-led government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to track down the real culprits and bring to justice,” he said.
The Sikh religion, the minority lawmaker added, believes in peace and tranquillity and abhors violence and extremism. Earlier, during the collective prayers the participants prayed for the stability and prosperity of the country.
