MEPs to assess Turkey’s 2014 reform progress

Turkey must step up the fight against corruption, guarantee the freedom of media and of expression and respect the independence of the judiciary, MEPs are likely to stress in a debate on Wednesday. In a draft resolution assessing Turkey’s 2014 reform progress, to be voted on Thursday, they urge the Turkish government to commit itself “unequivocally” to democratic rules and principles. The text also calls for more intensive EU-Turkey cooperation on foreign policy.

Parliament votes on the Foreign Affairs Committee’s draft resolution on Thursday.
