Two Seasons, Coron

This secluded resort may be environmentally-conscious, using desalinated sea water, rain catchers and solar panels, but it doesn't lack luxury. There is a luxury spa with Jacuzzis, a sauna, pools, and a meditation deck, and the 42 bungalows are all located either within the tropical gardens or on the beachfront. They have been decorated using materials and a colour palette inspired by the natural landscape, and come equipped with king-sized beds, large bathrooms and private verandas for soaking up the views. Coron offers some of the best wreck diving in the Philippines, and the resort's instructors will take you out to experience the shipwrecks and sealife for yourself ... or you can just lie on the beach instead.

Malaroyroy, Coron, Palawan, Philippines (00 63 2 410 2075; twoseasonsresorts.com/coron). Doubles from US$569 (£389), B&B.

Misibis Bay, Cagraray

Whether motor- and watersports float your boat, or you prefer tamer pursuits such as billiards and table tennis, Misibis Bay has plenty of entertainment on offer. There are three pools – one lagoon, one infinity with beach views, and a two-foot children's pool – plus a spa. The 53 rooms have views of the gardens, while the 37 Asian-inspired villas offer direct access to either the pool or beach. If the resort's restaurant, cafés or bar don't appeal, private dining can be arranged poolside, in the garden, on the beach, or in your villa.

Cagraray Island, Bacacay, Albay (00 63 2 661 8888; misibisbay.com). Doubles start at $570 (£390), room only.

Crimson Resort and Spa, Mactan

Fancy a dip in a three-tiered infinity pool? At Crimson there is also a spa and a private beach, where you can try everything from snorkelling to wakeboarding. The 250 guest rooms come with private balconies, but for some extra space – and a tad more luxury – check into one of the 40 ocean-facing villas. These have four-poster beds, outdoor private plunge pools and fabulous views.

Seascapes Resort Town, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu (00 63 32 401 9999; crimsonhotel.com/mactan). Doubles from PHP 6250 (£96), B&B.

Amanpulo, Pamalican

This boutique hotel sits on its own private island, with 40 timber casitas spread across the beach, the hillside and above the treeline. Each of them comes with its own buggy for getting around the island, and some have private pools. The 11 villas – which are available to buy if you're really taken with them – have gardens, terraces, private pools, plus a cook and housekeeper. Elsewhere within the resort you will find a library, a spa and tennis courts.

Pamalican Island, Sulu Archipelago, Palawan (00 63 2 976 5200; amanresorts.com). Doubles start at US$880 (£603), room only.

Abaca Boutique Resort, Cebu

There are just six deluxe suites and three large villas in this tiny, tranquil tropical hideaway, a short hop from bustling Cebu City. Decor is modern Asian, with low tables, wicker chairs, dark wood, and high ceilings. Bathrooms have free-standing bathtubs, separate showers and his'n'hers washbasins. Relax in the communal 30m black-tiled infinity pool, recline on the day beds in the grass-thatched cabanas, or opt for a traditional spa treatment.

Punta Engaño Road, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu (0063 32 495 3461; abacaresort.com). Doubles start at PHP15,900 (£244), B&B.

Dedon Island, Dapa

No money changes hands in this remote resort – designed by contemporary furniture brand Dedon – off the south-east tip of Siargao, where everything from food to massages is available on demand and included in the cost of your stay. The nine villas, tucked amid mangroves and palms, have thatched roofs, and are glass-fronted to let in plenty of light. Guests can also take a dip in the infinity pool, cook with the resort's head chef, or watch a film in the open-air cinema. Legendary surf breaks are found nearby.

Dapa, Surigao del Norte (00 63 917 701 7820; dedonisland.com). Doubles start at US$864 (£579), all-inclusive.
