Drive fall to Riverdogs in series finale
Runs were scarce at Fluor Field in Sunday’s series finale at Fluor Field, but the Charleston RiverDogs (23-20) took advantage of a Greenville Drive (25-18) error in the top of the ninth and came away with a 3-2 win in front of 6,606 fans. The RiverDogs drew a pair of walks to lead off the ninth trailing 2-1, and when Gosuke Katoh laid down a bunt, Jamie Callahan’s (0-4) throw evaded the third baseman for an error which allowed the tying run to score.  After Charleston loaded the bases with nobody out, Connor Spencer delivered a sacrifice fly to put the RiverDogs ahead.Rony Bautista followed by throwing a 1-2-3 bottom half of the ninth, his third scoreless inning of the night, to improve his record to 2-0.Drive starter Dedgar Jimenez received a no-decision despite a quality start in which he allowed one run on five hits and two walks over six innings with a season-high six strikeouts.The Drive took a 2-0 lead against starter Justin Kamplain in the fourth inning.  Derek Miller drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch.  Rafael Devers then lined a run-scoring single to center, and when the ball skipped under the glove of the Charleston center fielder, Devers raced all the way around to score.Jimenez kept the RiverDogs off the board until the sixth.  Angel Aguilar doubled and advanced to third on Dustin Fowler’s infield single, and when Fowler was caught trying to steal second, Aguilar scooted home for Charleston’s first run.Greenville first baseman Francisco Tellez was the lone player on either side to collect two hits.The Drive and RiverDogs split the four-game series in Greenville this weekend, and the Drive currently hold a 6-2 lead in the 20-game Battle of the Palmetto State Rivalry Series in 2015.From here, the Drive will travel south to begin a three-game series with the Augusta GreenJackets.  First pitch on the Memorial Day game in Augusta is set for 7:05 PM.  LH Jalen Beeks (3-1, 3.49) starts on the mound for the Drive, and the GreenJackets will counter with LH Matt Gage (2-1, 3.41).
