The body of a missing windsurfer who disappeared while out at sea with a group of friends has been found.

Giles Stothert, 61, failed to return to shore after going missing in foggy conditions at the mouth of the River Lune close to Glasson Dock, Lancashire, on Sunday.

The married father-of-two is from Saltcote, Glasson Dock, and owned a local upholstery business.

Lancashire Police confirmed that his body had been found on Monday morning and had been formally identified.

His body has been taken to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary by the North West Air Ambulance, accompanied by HM Coastguard.

A group of local windsurfers called the coastguard at around 4.30pm and four RNLI lifeboats from were launched and started to search the sea and shoreline.

Due to the state of the tide and the weather conditions the search area was expanded at 7pm to include the Blackpool coastline.

No one was found and the search was suspended at 3.30am on Sunday.

The lifeboat, mountain rescue and a police helicopter later continued the search.
