Airbus Reportedly Nears Order For Wide-body Jets From Delta

Beating US-based Boeing Co. (BA), French aerospace giant Airbus Group NV (EADSF.PK,EADSY.PK) is nearing an order to provide about 50 wide-body jets to Delta Air Lines Inc. (DALRQ.PK,DAL) in a deal valued at about $13 billion, reports said.

The order, a combination of A330neo and A350-900 planes, may be announced next week. Delta last year ordered for 40 planes from Airbus valued $5.6 billion at list prices.

Boeing was Delta's favorite until 2008, when it acquired Northwest Airlines. The US plane maker had supported Delta's bankruptcy restructuring plan in 2007 amid a hostile takeover bid from US Airways.
