Sense8 Netflix

I’m not hearing a lot of buzz about this sci-fi series from the Wachowskis, which dropped on Netflix in early June. I’m two-thirds of the way through and enjoying it, despite its disjointedness. The beautifully — and internationally — filmed story follows eight people from around the world who appear to share a porous consciousness and randomly drop into one another’s lives — during fights, chases, pensive moments, and, yup, sex. It’s like flipping among eight distinct channels, and then finding a channel that blends two of them — or something like that. I’m not sure where it’s heading; please don’t let the mythology be convoluted or stupid. But so far, I’m enjoying the ride. It’s very “I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together”-ish. Pictured (foreground, from left): Tuppence Middleton, Brian J. Smith, and Aml Ameen.

Also worth noting about this series: Jamie Clayton, who plays Nomi, the trans woman in San Francisco who almost had her brain dissected by an evil doctor. Clayton, who is also a trans woman, does a nice job carrying the most mysterious of the many plotlines. She belongs in all of the transgender conversation about Caitlyn Jenner, Laverne Cox, and Amazon’s excellent series “Transparent.” Pictured: Clayton (right) with Freema Agyeman
