A pizza delivery driver told investigators that he fired shots at two armed robbers, killing one of them, Hollywood police said.

The attempted armed robbery and fatal shooting happened at 12:53 a.m. Wednesday in a parking lot near Domino’s, 5745 Hollywood Blvd.

Slayde Henry, 24, was approached by two masked men who might have had a handgun, Officer Meredith Elrich said. During the robbery attempt, Henry shot and killed one of the suspects, who was identified by police as Adalberto Hernandez, 24.

The second suspect ran west; police were still searching for him Wednesday night. The suspect was wearing dark clothing with his face covered and might be armed, Elrich said.

Officers used a helicopter and K-9 units in their search. A black Toyota with several bullet holes was removed from the parking lot on a flatbed tow truck about 7 a.m. It was not known who owned the car.

Domino’s corporate spokesman Tim McIntyre released a statement Wednesday afternoon.

“As do all national pizza delivery companies, we do have a no-weapons policy at our company-owned stores,” he wrote in an email.

Citing the ongoing police investigation, he declined to comment on the case other than to say Domino’s was cooperating.

“We are grateful that our employee was not hurt and hope the Hollywood police department can find the second suspect as quickly as possible,” he added.
