Last Updated 25 April 2015, 21:04 IST

Normal life was affected in Kashmir on Saturday due to the strike called by Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Geelani to protest against the slapping of Public Safety Act (PSA) on separatists leader Masarat Alam Bhat.

All the shops and other commercial establishments remained closed while public transport was off the roads in city center Lal Chowk and its adjoining areas. However, skeletal movement of private vehicles was reported from various areas. Hundreds of police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force wearing riot gears were deployed in various parts of old city to prevent people from staging protests.

Elsewhere in the Valley normal life also remained affected due to the strike. Reports said that shops remained closed and government offices witnessed thin attendance in most district headquarters in the Valley.
