The lawsuit and the restaurant

The lawsuit and the restaurant

The Baltimore Sun reported Friday morning that Chazz: A Bronx Original has closed its doors in Harbor East.

The pizza restaurant, co-owned by actor/writer Chazz Palminteri, opened to much fanfare more than three years ago.

Why the restaurant shut down was not immediately known, but there might have been a hint in a court filing made last month in Baltimore City Circuit Court.

Sysco Baltimore LLC, one of the restaurant’s vendors, filed a complaint Dec. 24 seeking a judgment of more than $161,000 in unpaid bills.

“Defendants received goods over a period of time and the Plaintiff has rendered an account stated and has sent numerous statements to the Defendants reflecting the entries, which have not been paid,” the complaint states.

Sysco products were sold on a credit basis to the restaurant based on a March 2011 contract, according to the lawsuit.

The Jessup-based company’s lawsuit is the active one against the restaurant, according to online court records.

Sysco simultaneously filed a lawsuit seeking nearly $230,000 in unpaid bills from Aldo’s in Little Italy.

Listed as a defendant and guarantor in both lawsuits are members of the Vitale family, who own Aldo’s and partnered with Palminteri on Chazz: A Bronx Original. (Aldo’s remains open, according to its website.)

John L. Friedman, Sysco’s lawyer, said Friday the first he heard of Chazz: A Bronx Original’s closing was when I told him. Friedman, a Baltimore solo practitioner, said he was not aware of any other vendors filing claims against the restaurant.

If we hear any more information, we’ll pass it along.
