Aaron Roy, a bullrider formerly from Yellow Grass, returned to the sport of professional bull riding, and won at the 2014 PBR Canada Finals at the SaskTel Center in Saskatoon on Nov. 15.

This was Roy’s first return to the competition since the 2013 Calgary Stampede, when he was injured when a bull stomped on, after he was bucked off. Due to the injury, Roy had underwent surgery to repair broken vertebrae, and had to have two metal rods and eight screws installed.

During the 2014 PBR Canada Finals, after a buck-off during the first round on Nov. 14, Roy redeemed himself with a 85.5 during the second round.

Then in the championship round, Roy had the highest score of the weekend with 90 points. He earned over $12,000 for the ride, and walked away with a championship buckle.

Despite the successful return, Roy is still undecided on his future plans in the sport.

The win was also important in another way for Roy, since he had his wife Hallie and his son Axel witness the ride.

Before his injury at the Calgary Stampede, Roy had 146 events on the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) circuit, and also racked up a still-unmatched three Canada championships and stood out in competitions across North America. He had a lengthy recovery program.
