Last fall, Twitter came up with Digits, a developer-facing service, to facilitate logging into third-party mobile applications without the need for passwords. Now this service comes with added features, including a friend finding function and two-step authentication.
Added security for users
Digits already offered users a secure way to log into apps with the help of their phone numbers, making usernames and passwords redundant. However, it could make it prone to hacking, so now for additional security, the company offers a two-step verification feature.
Twitter announced the new features in a blog post, and explaining that once Digits is implemented by a developer, it will be possible for app users to visit Digits.com to create a simple code required for future logins and sign-ups for all Digits-powered apps.
“By delivering an experience fit for the individual user, you can increase the adoption of your app and retention among your user base,” Twitter said in a blog post.
Twitter makes the experience more personal
The friend finding option is another feature rolled out to Digits by Twitter. With the help of this feature, developers can create a social graph in their apps by saving a user’s address book, allowing the user to find others using the same app. This new feature will help users personalize their experience in an application as well. The feature will show the user what all has been bought by their friends or the achievements and progress they made in a game or any competitive app.
The service made its debut this past October, but the list of apps supported by it has not grown much, says a report from TechCrunch. At that time, the new system was first implemented by Fitstar, Resy and OneFootball and several others, as noted by Twitter. The list now has a few more names, including some high-profile ones, for example, Rdio. The service is very new and, therefore, the company is neither ready to reveal the number of developers who are live with Digits at present, nor it is revealing how many developers are testing the option.
According to Twitter, the two new additions have already been made available to Digits.
