Ozanam Charitable Pharmacy is hosting a unique fundraiser event with their Angels in the Attic sale featuring gently used antiques and other vintage items from all over the Gulf Coast.

Angels in the Attic will be held on May 22 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and May 23 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 210 Dauphin St, next door to the Crescent Theatre downtown. According to Shearie Archer, executive director, the venue was donated by John Switzer to be used especially for the event.

According to Archer, the idea came from Moren Braswell, who has served on the Board of Directors for Ozanam Charitable Pharmacy for 18 years. Archer said that Braswell always wanted to create an upscale attic sale event for the organization and is the chairperson for Angels in the Attic. Braswell spent several months securing the building to house the event.

According to Archer, they have had hundreds of items donated for the event by friends of the Pharmacy and area businesses. The items for sale include vintage furniture such as bedroom suites, sofas, flooring, glassware, outdoor furniture, paintings and other specialty items. Other items include jewelry, artwork, and household wares.

"Thanks to the kindness of many of Moren's friends, friends of the pharmacy, board of directors and staff, we have great items for this event," Archer said.

Archer said that "there is something for everyone" in the items for sale, and that they are hoping to raise $10,000 to support the pharmacy's programs, specifically the Access Your Rx Patient Assistance Program and our Medication Therapy Management Patient Education Program. They hold a number of fundraiser events throughout the year as well.

"Events like The Angels in the Attic are important for us to carry on our mission as a free pharmacy," Archer said. "Because there is never any money that exchanges hands between us and our patients we rely on fundraising like the Angels in the Attic to support our programs."

The Angels in the Attic event is being sponsored by The Moses Foundation, First Financial Group of the South, and Smith, Dukes & Buckalew LLP. Lighting is donated by Showbiz Theatrical Lighting.

Ozanam Pharmacy is the only free pharmacy in Alabama and one of the oldest stand-alone licensed charitable pharmacies in the United States. The pharmacy provides medication and patient education services for certified individuals residing in Mobile, Baldwin and Escambia counties. All of their patients are uninsured and living at or below the federal poverty guidelines.

Angels in the Attic is being held on Friday, May 22 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, May 23 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.  For more information on Ozanam Charitable Pharmacy, visit their website or call (251) 432-4111.
