Hertz Global Holdings Inc. announced Thursday that former Ingersoll Rand executive Lawrence Silber has been appointed president and CEO of Hertz Equipment Rental Corp.

Silber replaces Brian MacDonald, who stepped down immediately, according to a written release by Hertz Global, which is building a new world headquarters in Estero and at present is based in North Naples.

Hertz Equipment Rental, which Hertz Global plans to spin off as a separate company this year, has a 10-year lease for 55,220 square feet in the old Source Interlink building in Bonita Springs.

At present, Hertz Equipment is a subsidiary of Hertz Global, which announced two years ago that it's relocating to Estero from Park Ridge, N.J.

Silber has served since 2014 as an executive adviser at Court Square Capital Partners LLP.

From 1978-2008 he worked for Ingersoll Rand in roles including president of the utility equipment group.

Hertz Global expects to move into the Estero headquarters building late this year.

The company announced May 15 that it's closing 200 locations nationwide but none in Southwest Florida.
