NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – The heroes of last week’s machete attack at Louis Armstrong International Airport reunited today and got a visit from their boss, Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson. Carol Richel, Walter Johnson, and Christopher Lucia were on duty at a security checkpoint Friday when Richard White attacked them with a machete and wasp spray. Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Deputy Heather Slyve shot White to end the attack. White later died. Investigators also found a bag of molotov cocktails on White and smoke bombs and gas cylinders in his car. The three TSA agents met with Secretary Johnson privately to discuss what happened that night and what changes should be made to prevent future attacks.
