GRAND RAPIDS, MI --- Chase Bank will be shuttering 37 branches this spring located at Meijer stores throughout Michigan.
The closures will begin at the end of the March and be completed by the end of May.
The New York-based bank has already contacted customers by letter and by phone about the pending closures, said Christine Holevas, a spokeswoman for JPMorgan Chase.
“We have deep relationships with our customers and our bankers wanted to have a discussion about the moves,” Holevas said.
Notifications have also gone up at the branch locations, explaining the bank’s decision to pull out of the Midwest retailer.
“We continually review our branch network and have decided to consolidate some in-store branches into full-service branches,” said Holevas. “Meijer is a great Michigan brand, and though circumstances have changed since we entered into our partnership with Meijer Stores in 2005, we have been proud to serve customers together.”
Bank employees at the Meijer locations will be offered positions at other Chase branches.
Chase Bank's departure comes more than two years after the Midwest retailer struck a deal with Huntington Bank to open bank branches in its stores.

The Columbus-based bank's Steelcase-designed and furnished branches are in the majority of Meijer's Michigan stores, and will replace the Chase branch locations which are at the end of their contract with the retailer.
Chase will be closing branches at the following Meijer stores:
