Gold wage talks to restart July 6

[miningmx.com] – WAGE negotiations between gold producers and employer unions would resume on July 6 for another three-day installment, said the Chamber of Mines (CoM) in an announcement.

“Parties have agreed to reconvene on Monday 6 July, when a further three-day session has been allocated,” the CoM said.

Gold producers including AngloGold Ashanti, Harmony Gold and Sibanye Gold proposed on July 29 a five-year wage deal to unions in which increases to basic pay for entry-level workers are set between 7.8% to 13% a year, and include a profit share element.

The National Unions of Mineworkers, the majority union in the gold mining sector, has expressed disappointment with the wage offers saying that the two parties were “poles apart”, according to report.

Trade union Solidarity expressed cautionary interest in the mining firms’ profit sharing and restructuring promises but expressed disappointment that its demand over the raising of the retirement age had not been dealt with.
