Bill Janus named Daily Times publisher/president

STAFF REPORT

Gannett Co. Inc. named Bill Janus as publisher and president of The Daily Times newspaper and the Delmarva Media Group on Tuesday.

The Salisbury-based Delmarva Media Group is the umbrella company for The Daily Times, its website DelmarvaNow.com, and several other weekly publications in the Lower Eastern Shore of Maryland, Virginia's Eastern Shore and Sussex County, Delaware.

"I'm extremely excited to be in what I consider to be one of the best regions in the mid-Atlantic," Janus said. "I look forward to being active in the community to serve advertisers and loyal readers. I'm excited to be here as we continue to develop our digital capabilities while not forgetting our loyal print readers."

Janus comes to The Daily Times after serving as general manager and advertising director of the Gannett-owned Courier-Post newspaper in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. He had been assisting the Delmarva Media Group with some financial and managerial oversight since August 2014, when former Daily Times general manager Tom Claybaugh left for another Gannett position in New York state.

Janus has been with Gannett for nearly 20 years. He joined The News Journal in Wilmington, Delaware, in 1989 as sales executive and served in various roles before becoming advertising director. He assumed the general manager role at the Courier-Post in 2013. He's also worked as classified advertising director for The Baltimore Sun and a sales director for Comcast.

"Bill has a proven track record in sales management, new business development and customer retention," said Bob Dickey, president of Gannett's U.S. Community Publishing division. "Bill knows the Delmarva area well and will be a great addition to the community."

Janus is married with three children. He is a graduate of Widener University in Chester, Pennsylvania.

Former general manager and Rochester, New York, native Tom Claybaugh left The Daily Times last summer to helm Gannett Central New York Media, which publishes newspapers in upstate New York. He had been in charge in Salisbury since July 2012.
