PEORIA — A Peoria man was sentenced to six years in prison Wednesday after he pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a 6-year-old girl.

Kevin Crain, 40, of 2311 N. Linn St. was to begin a bench trial on charges of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and aggravated criminal sexual abuse when he opted for the plea to criminal sexual assault, a felony that had a 15-year maximum sentence.

In return for the plea, prosecutors dropped the other charges. Predatory criminal sexual assault of a child has a potential 60-year maximum sentence.

The charges allege the sexual abuse occurred on July 24, 2014. No further details were available.

Crain must serve at least 85 percent of his sentence. With credit for nearly a year in custody, he could be released from prison in just more than four years.
