DOE Cleanup Contractor Fluor-B&W Awards Scholarships

PIKETON – Fluor-B&W Portsmouth, the cleanup contractor at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Portsmouth Site, presented $24,000 in scholarships to 12 outstanding high school seniors this month.

This year’s Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) scholarship program raises Fluor-B&W’s scholarship giving to $96,000 since 2012. The scholarships are given to deserving students entering college this fall and majoring in STEM-related programs.

To be eligible students must also have attend high school in Jackson, Pike, Ross or Scioto counties.

This year 98 students applied for the $2,000 scholarships. Among the winners were Abigail Crothers, Piketon; Laura Knipp, Eastern Pike; Madison Reed, Piketon; MacKenzie Smitley, Chillicothe; Izabella Timmons, Unioto.
