A recent investment of $48 million for a new headquarters for Magna Seating of America in Novi is making western Oakland County look more promising for businesses looking to relocate, county officials said Thursday.

The investment is expected to bring 164 new jobs to the area.

Magna Seating will consolidate its business into a single facility to house its world headquarters, engineering, research and development, and sales and marketing teams.

The company will construct a new 180,000-square-foot facility to house its operations in Novi, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation announced in a press release.

The facility will be located on Cabot Drive, north of 13 Mile Road and east of MI-5, with construction on the building expected to begin in the fourth quarter of this year.

To date, Magna International Inc. – the seating division’s parent company – has invested a total of $104 million in western Oakland County, creating 414 new jobs.

Magna International is an automotive supplier that produces body, chassis, interior, exterior, seating, powertrain, electronic, vision, closure and roof systems and modules, as well as vehicle engineering and contract manufacturing.

Less than a month ago, Magna International Inc. also announced plans to construct a $56 million manufacturing facility in Lyon Township. The facility will supply underbody structural components to the auto industry.
