This means Khobragade has no job, although she retains her post.

Taking a serious view of her unauthorised statements to the media, the Ministry of External Affairs stripped diplomat Devyani Khobragade of her duties as director in the development partnership division of the ministry.

Khobragade has been placed under 'compulsory watch', the ministry said, adding that the diplomat did not take permission before issuing certain statements to the media. The administrative step taken by the ministry means that she has no job, although she retains her post. Sources said Khobragade is likely to be the target of additional administrative action.

However, some sources claimed that it was not her interviews to the media but her childrens' foreign citizenship that made the ministry take the action.

Khobragade attracted the media attention when she was arrested and strip searched in New York in 2013 in a visa fraud issue. The diplomatic relations between India and the United States nosedived after the incident.
